Bhubaneswar: In a bid to generate more hydropower in the Odisha, the state government has decided to renovate three major hydro power projects very soon.
A decision to this effect was taken at a high level review meeting presided over by chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the state secretariat here on Tuesday.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Energy secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra said as per the decision taken at the meeting, a target has been set to generate 11 MW of additional hydro power from Hirakud with the renovation of its two units for which the government would spend Rs 158 crore. “The renovation work of these two units would be completed in 30 months,” he added.
Mohapatra further said Rs 65.76 crore would be spent for renovation of one unit of Chipilima project while Rs 664 crore has been earmarked for renovation of hydropwer units at Balimela.
Among others, chief secretary,Energy minister, development commissioner,additional secretary, Finance, secretary,Water Resources and CMD of Grid Corporation of Odisha were present at the meeting.
