New Delhi: R. V. Raja Kumar has been appointed as the director of IIT-Bhubaneswar after his name got the clearance from President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday.
Raja Kumar, an electronics professor in IIT Kharagpur, has been chosen along with Pushpak Bhattacharya and Sarit Kumar Das who will head as the directors of Patna and Ropar IITs, respectively.
All the names were cleared by Mukherjee, who happens to be the Visitor and appointing authority for all IITs.
While Bhattacharya is professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT-Bombay, Das is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT-Madras.
Their appointments come after the ministry had held a marathon round of selection process on March 22 and interviewed 36 IIT faculties for the three posts.
Chairman of IIT-Bombay Board of Governors Anil Kakodkar had skipped the meeting of the section panel days after he had stirred a controversy by resigning from his post, unhappy over the selection process, though he later withdrew it.
The interview on March 22 was called afresh after the ministry had quashed an earlier selection process to appoint the new directors for the three IITs.
