Puri temple invites seer, disciples to attend Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Putting to rest the controversies over participation of Puri Govardhan Peeth Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati in the Rath Yatra, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today sent an official invitation to the seer requesting him to attend the annual festival.

The temple body has allowed the seer to attend the festival along with six of his disciples.

Last month, accepting the invitation of Puri King Gajapati Dibyasingha Dev the Sankaracharya had paid obeisance to the Trinity at the Snana Mandap during the bathing ritual of the deities.

Last year, protesting the decision of the temple administration to allow only the Shankaracharya to offer prayer during the two rituals, the seer did not attend the Rath Yatra.

However, this year, the temple managing body allowed six disciples of the Shankaracharya to accompany him to Snana Bedi and the chariots.
