Puri station fire: GRP likely to seek remand extension of accused

Bhubaneswar: Even as the three-day remand of Ramchandran Subhas, main accused in the series of fire incidents at Puri railway station ends today, the Government Railway Police (GRP) is most likely to seek his remand extension to conduct polygraph test on the accused.

Investigating officials said though the Puri SDJM court had allowed the GRP for polygraph test on Subhas, they preferred the interrogation by NIA (National Investigating Agency) official first.

“We will urge the court to grant few more days for the polygraph test,” an official wishing not to be named said.
Meanwhile, identity and other details of Ramchandran’s three associates – Uttam, Gopal and Asraf- who were a part of the crime, has not yet known. The NIA and State Intelligence department are trying to figure out whether the trio has any link with any terror outfit.

“In his statement, he mentioned about so many links all over India. He too disclosed names like Asraf, Gopal and Uttam during the interrogation. We are trying to prove veracity of the information”, Puri SP Satyajit Sarangi said.
Officials have found out that the accused may have been employed by a group which is carrying out ‘dry runs’ across places of religious significance.

Sources said, Subash had carried out for reconnaissance in Tirumala and Akshardham with his associates.
Intelligence officials, who questioned him, said he had admitted his involvement in similar incidents in Rishikesh-Delhi train at Haridwar and Gaya stations this month.
