Case against BJD MLA, 7 supporters forwarded to court for attack on PS
Jagatsinghpur: Police today forwarded to the court seven supporters of BJD MLA from Niali Pramod Mallick arrested on charges of vandalising Tirtol police station yesterday.
The arrests were made after examination of CCTV footage, police sources said. A case against the legislator was also registered and his vehicle seized, they added.
However, the two political parties have refrained from formally lodging any complaint, police added.
A clash took place yesterday between the workers of BJP and BJD at Jeypore on the Cuttack-Paradip Road under Tirtol police limits hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Paradip to dedicate the IOCL refinery.
Accusing BJD of using administrative machinery to stop them from attending PM programme, BJP workers thrashed the Niali MLA, who was on his way to Paradip to attend the function with his supporters.
Soon after the clash, BJD workers barged into the Tirtol police station and ransacked the office alleging that police did not come to the rescue of the legislator when saffron party activists attacked him.
The furniture and files of the police station were damaged. The incident led to a huge traffic jam with all stranded on the road for about three hours. As many as four motorcycles, two vehicles and a bus were also damaged in the clash.
Notably, a full-blown clash between the two parties was also reported at the IOCL function venue, hours before the refinery was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
