Bhubaneswar: Cooperation minister Damodar Rout today said the State government will initiate process to resume operations at Nayagarh sugar mill. Rout informed this after convening a high level meeting at secretariat which was attended by Law minister, Industries minister and chief secretary GC Pati.
Rout said a five member team under Cooperation secretary has been formed to look into the matter. Official sources said the team will submit report to the State government based on which steps would be taken.
On August 24, a bandh called by Nayagarh Aakhu Chasi Mahasangha (federation of sugarcane cultivators) and Nayagarh Sugar Factory Employees Union was observed in Nayagarh demanding reopening of the sugar mill and payment of arrears to cultivators and arrear wages to employees.
The protestors alleged cultivators have not received their dues for the cane supplied to the mill for a long period. The mill authorities have declared a lock-out since March 4 this year.
Sugar cane cultivators and employees intensified their agitation since repeated discussions between the government and the mill authorities failed to resolve the issue.
