Sambalpur: The Burla police has begun probe into the circulation of fake certificates in the name of Sambalpur University.
The incident came to the fore after two staff of the Dhanbad-based GR Education Training and Placement in the neighbouring Jharkhand brought to the notice of the university authorities on Wednesday. The said agency, after receiving the certificates in the name of the university, had sought the help of the university authorities for authenticity. However, during the examination, these certificates were found to be fake, sources said.
Talking to the media, vice chancellor of Sambalpur University Prof Chittaranjan Tripathy said some hackers, after hacking the old website of the university linked to the UGC website, have been able to prepare fake certificates in the name of the university.
Stating that the old website of the university is not its official website, he said there is no provision to issue mark-sheets and certificates to the students online.
“We have informed the matter to the UGC authorities and lodged a complaint with the Burla police which has begun investigation”, Tripathy added.
Asked about the incident, Higher Education minister Pradip Panigrahi said he has asked the vice chancellor to probe into the incident and submit a report on the basis of which appropriate action will be taken.
