Bhubaneswar: Preparations are in final stages for this year’s Rath Yatra tomorrow. In different parts of the State, the local administration has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the chariot festival.
Shabar Srikhetra in Koraput has become lively as the Rath Yatra will be celebrated tomorrow. As per the tradition, after the worshipping of deities is performed by ‘Shabar’ tribe, one Adivasi leader from the group conducts ‘Cherra Panhara’ (sweeping ceremony) on the chariots.
Koraput SP V.R. Rao said the district police have made tight security arrangements to maintain law and order situation in the area.
Baripada of Mayurbhanj district, which is known as second Shree Khetra after Puri, has geared up to organise the chariot festival. ‘Pahandi’ (procession) of deities will be conducted tomorrow whereas pulling of chariots will be done the day after tomorrow. Traditionally, women only pull the chariot of Goddess Subhadra.
Meanwhile, the Baldevjew Peeth in Kendrapara district, known as ‘Tulasi Khetra’, has special religious significance. For the annual car fest here, preparations are in full swing. All the three deities – Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and sister Subhadra are installed in the Brahma Taladhwaja chariot said to be the world’s biggest chariot in height. The height of the chariot is 65 feet.
As per the ritual, the chariot would be pulled to mausima temple the day after tomorrow.
Besides, preparations for the car fest in Cuttack, Berhampur and Bhubaneswar are almost over.
