Potato heat forces House adjournment
Bhubaneswar: The potato issue again rocked the State Legislative Assembly today following which the Speaker failed to run the House and adjourned it twice. Both Congress and BJP members created pandemonium over the matter during zero hour.
Soon after the question hour, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati alleged that even though the Speaker had convened a meeting over the matter yesterday, no solution has come out. He said that 14,000 metric tonne of tubers are lying on the road unsold. He demanded the government should inform the House about the steps being taken to sort out the farmers’ issues.
Two cabinet ministers had blamed each other yesterday in the Assembly for the distress sale of the household vegetable. Agriculture Minister Pradip Maharathy blaming the department of cooperation and supply said that, the procurement of potato is the responsibility of his department while supply department should take care of the distribution part.
