Bhubaneswar: After giving a slip for almost one and a half months, Raju Barik, the main accused in the murder of contractor Dillip Nayak murder in Bhubaneswar was arrested from Khandpra area of Nayagarh district today by the commissionerate police.
Raju, a singer-turned-politician-turned-criminal, was absconding since June 18 after killing Nayak, even though the police was successful in making three arrests including Raju’s elder brother Jay Barik and Jay’s son Sisir Barik.
According to police sources, on June 18, Raju fled to Puri with Rs 60,000 cash, four mobile phones, and six SIM cards. He used to roam in an auto rickshaw everyday by paying Rs 600 per day. Moreover, he used to sleep in the same auto rickshaw by paying Rs 300. He used to roam in and around Puri, Konark, Satpara and Brahmagiri areas. After getting a tipoff that he was staying in someone’s house in Khandpara, police raided the place and arrested him, informed sources.
It is expected that his arrest will also uncover his links with political and film personalities which surfaced during while he was absconding.
Earlier on July 16, the Commissionerate Police had moved to the SDJM court here seeking a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against 22 accused and Raju Barik.
Notably, a 35-year-old contractor Dillip Nayak was shot dead by rival Raju’s group near a construction site behind the AIIMS Hospital in Patrapada under Khandagiri police station on June 18.
