Bhubaneswar: Terming Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Rs 1000-cr package for drought-hit areas in the State as ‘political gimmick’, Opposition leader Narasingh Mishra on Wednesday said the announcement does not hold ground as people affected by the natural calamity in 2011 is yet to get financial assistance.
Further, Mishra stated, “People from Bolangir as well as other parts of the State affected by a drought in 2011 are alleging that they have not got any assistance yet. Though packages one after another are being announced, practically nothing is being implemented.”
Echoing similar sentiment, BJP leader Biswabhushan Harichandan said, “The government is not doing anything to protect crop in drought-hit areas. They are making statements only to mislead people.”
Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Amar Prasad Satapathy said, “The government has taken concrete steps. People affected with the drought will definitely get the assistance. The Opposition parties are only politicising the matter.”
