Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to implement the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in 14 districts from November 1.
The NFSA programme will be implemented in the State in two phases, informed Madhusudan Padhi, secretary, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department here today.
For this, department has directed the district collectors to provide ration cards to all eligible beneficiaries by October 10.
And, in the rest 16 districts, the government has set October 31 deadline for distribution of ration cards to all eligible beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the department secretary in a written letter asked the collectors of 14 districts to prepare a database of all eligible beneficiaries by September 14.
As per the information provided by the department, around 52 lakh beneficiaries have been identified so far by cancelling about 73 lakh beneficiaries from the list.
The district administration in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Balasore, Jajpur, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts are taking more time to identify the real beneficiaries.
It may be noted here around 3.26 crore people of the State will get 5 kg of rice or wheat at discounted price after implementation of the NFSA.
