Bhubaneswar: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel belonging to Odisha died at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport in Kolkata in a freak incident yesterday.
A senior airport official said the jawan, Gurucharan Singh, was walking along the service corridor of lounge No.5 to check security arrangements ahead of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s arrival when he fell down.
The corridor with polycarbonate coatings suddenly gave way as Singh was walking and the jawan fell 15 feet down, the official said. An unconscious Singh was hospitalised and died soon afterwards, he added.
On being told about the incident, Banerjee visited the spot and expressed grief. She also condoled the bereaved family.
