Cuttack: After the finish of Odisha vs West Bengal match of Ranji Trophy in one and half days at the Bengal Cricket Academy ground at Kalyani in Kolkata, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Secretary Ashirwad Behera wrote a letter to BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur expressing his displeasure over the quality of pitch.
Behera alleged in the letter that the pitch was underprepared and uneven bounce was happening. He also mentioned about his discussion on the issue with BCCI Ground and Pitch Committee head.
“It is the first time a match has been played at Kalyani and the pitch was underprepared. We informed BCCI chief curator Daljit singh about the issue. According to the BCCI guidelines, a pitch should be a sporting wicket. Besides, zonal and chief curators should examine the pitch,” Behera stated.
Citing the example of Jharkhand vs Himachal Pradesh match that ended in two days in this Ranji season, Behera said, “Jharkand had scored more than 300 runs. However, Himachal Pradesh batsmen failed.”
But in this case, batsman of both Odisha and Bengal failed, said Behera adding, “Players should not be held responsible as the pitch was underprepared.”
Meanwhile, Odisha team manager lodged a complaint with the Match Referee regarding this.
After seeing their batting collapse, the Bengal team had also lodged a complaint with the Match Referee.
During the Odisha vs Bengal match a total of 40 wickets fell in two days. While Bengal was all out for 142 runs in the first innings, Odisha was managed to score only 107 by losing all the wickets.
In the second innings, while chasing a target of 171 runs, Odisha was all out for 37. Bengal had scored 142 runs.
