Bhubaneswar: The Nayagarh Sugar Complex Ltd (NSCL), which has been closed for the last six months, will start operations in a week.
The decision to reopen the mill was taken at a meeting headed by cooperation minister Damodar Rout here on Thursday. “The State government will initiate the process to resume operations at the sugar mill within a week’s time. A five-member committee headed by the cooperation secretary has been formed to reopen the mill,” said Rout.
“The authorities of NSCL have been asked to initiate steps for reopening the mill in a week’s time and to clear the payment of arrears to cultivators and employees”, said Nayagrah collector Hemant Kumar Padhi.
Meanwhile, a notice has been served by the banks to repay the loan amount.
Notably, the sugarcane cultivators in Nayagarh district have not received their dues for raw material supplied to the mill for a long time .The mill authorities have declared a lock-out since March 4 this year.
On August 24, a bandh was observed by Nayagarh Aakhu Chasi Mahasangha and Nayagarh Sugar Factory Employees Union demanding reopening of the mill.
