Bhubaneswar: In 4 days time, the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be rolled out in 14 districts, uncertainty looms over its implementation in Malkangiri district. In majority of blocks of the district eligible beneficiaries are yet to receive their digital ration cards.
In a letter to the Malkangiri district coordinator, the district civil supplies officer has highlighted that the digital ration cards are yet to be received by many blocks and ULBs leading to delay in distribution of cards.
“In this circumstance your negligence has put the district administration in trouble,” the Civil Supplies official noted in his letter to the district coordinator.
Warning the district Coordinator of necessary action in case of any conduct which may jeopardize the implementation of NFSA, the Civil Supplies official has asked the district Coordinator to take necessary steps to address the issue.
“Around 17-18000 cards are yet to be provided to us through the vendor. Even after repeated contacts we are yet to get any cooperation in ensuring availability of the cards,” said Malkangiri district Civil Supplies officer Abhimanyu Mohanty.
On the other hand, the State government is planning to start the 2nd phase distribution of digital ration cards in the rest 16 districts on November 29. The process will be kicked off by chief minister Naveen Patnaik in Mayurbhanj.
According to sources, in the second phase, 2, 01, 79, 605 beneficiaries of 52,88,681 families will be covered.
“Ration Card Management Centers will be set up and through these centers all the errors in the cards will be rectified and eligible families who have been left out will also be included under the scheme,” informed Food Supplies secretary Madhusudan Padhee.
