Cuttack: Shop owners in Odisha’s biggest wholesale market at Malgodown area here downed their shutters today as a mark of respect for pulses trader Mohammed Farooq, who was shot dead by three unidentified assailants yesterday.
The city police were still clueless about the identities and the motive behind the murder.
“We are feeling very unsafe to open our shops in the backdrop of such a cold-blooded murder,” said Prakash Naik, joint secretary of Malgodown traders’ association adding, the manner in which the assailants escaped and the police not getting any clue about them was “bizarre.”
Unless adequate security was provided to traders in Malgodown, many would think of to wind up their businesses in the city, said another terrified trader.
Meanwhile, a special squad of the city police raided several places in the city in search of the assailants. A senior police officer said some evidences have been gathered, which might throw some light on the identities of the assailants and investigations were on.
