Sunabeda: With an aim to boost creativity among children, ‘Udbhav’, a fortnight-long theatre workshop was organized by Theatre Odisha here in association with Mukti Theatre of Bhubaneswar.
The workshop, in its second edition inaugurated on December 21, 2014, attracted 35 students, including tribal children, in the age group of 8 to 14 from various schools in this tribal-dominated district of Koraput.
Surya Narayan Mohanty, an alumnus of the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD), was helming the annual workshop. Assistant director of the workshop Biswaranjan Kanungo and creative coordinator Susant Ranjan Routroy helped Mohanty in conducting the workshop.
Children were also seen participating in different kinds of events, including a painting competition to sharpen their creativity and imagination. Mohanty also taught the kids other skills such as voice modulation, proper pronunciation of certain words which he thinks a must for personality development (PD).
Noted local artists like musician Bhagabat Samal, poet Jayashree Mahanty and psychologist Sneha Murmu also taught the kids other personality development traits.
The workshop concluded on January 4, 2015, with four culturally-enriching plays presented by the participating children. Suryakanta Rout, manager of Artist department of HAL, and parents of the participating children were present at the occasion.
