Journalist arrested for collecting money as Maoist

Raygada: A journalist was arrested by Raygada police today for collecting money from a village level worker (VLW) by introducing himself as a Maoist. The scribe has been identified as Ajit Batria, a resident of Gadabaguda Village under Chandili police limits.

According to sources, Ajit demanded Rs 2 lakh from a daily VLW in the month of June by introducing himself as a Maoist. He also threatened the to kill the VLW if he failed to pay the money. The VLW out of fear gave him the money. However, after few days he further demanded 3 lakh from the worker. The VLW later on approached Raygada Police and filed a complaint, informed sources.

Meanwhile, Police have also seized a motorcycle and a laptop bought by Ajit with the money.
