Hand chopping case: SC asks Odisha govt to file affidavit
Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court has recently asked the Odisha government to file affidavits over the hand chopping of two bonded labourers of Kalhandi district.
Hearing a petition, social justice bench of apex court also directed the Andhra Pradesh and Telengana governments to apprise about condition of the labourers.
The bench asked the Odisha government’s counsel Sarmila Upadhyaya about rehabilitation of the said labourers and action taken against the accused.
Notably, an Andhra Pradesh based contractor chopped the palm of Nilambar Dhangadamajhi and Dialu Nial of Kalahandi while they were working.
The apex court suo motu took the case for hearing.
