Berhampur: In order to expedite submission of police verification report (PVR) of passport applicants, Ganjam and Berhampur district police headquarter (DPHs) will soon be linked online with Regional Passport Office (RPO) at Bhubeneswar.
The Government has set a deadline to complete the process under DPH model of external affairs ministry by January 15, official sources said. At present, commissionerate of police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack and Jharsuguda police district are linked to the RPO under the model.
“The applicants will get their passports very soon after implementation the scheme”, sad assistant passport officer, RPO, Ashis Ray here.
“We have already imparted training to police officers across the state and provided necessary device for the purpose”, said Ray, who was here for a possport Seva Camp.
Issue of passport is now taking a long time as PVR is being dispatched by police through post to the passport office.
Under the existing process, after verification of applications, the PVR is sent to police headquarter, which forwards it to passport office for further process. “If the police report is clear, we will dispose of the application soon”, said Ray.
“We have also introduced an SMS service system of facilitate applicants know about the stage of processing”, he said. The applicant has to pay a nominal Rs 30 to avail the SMS services, he added.
A senior police officer said the process to link DPHs of Berhampur and Ganjam with RPO, Bhubaneswar, is expected to be completed by the end December.
The two-day possport camp was organised on public private partneship mode by the RPO. Berhampur was the second camp in Odisha after Rourkela where it was held on November 29 and 30, Ray said.
