Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to begin the procurement of kharif paddy from the farmers from November 15, said Food Supply and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma on Friday.
The department also directed all the district collectors to hold district-level procurement committee meetings to fix the target, the minister added.
He also said the department will have a meeting with the district farmers’ representatives and millers in Bhubaneswar on Saturday to fix the procurement target.
On November 4, the district collectors under the northern range will be having a meeting regarding the procurement whereas collectors under the southern range will meet on November 6 at Berhampur.
“During the meet, we will receive input from the farmer representatives on their yield. We will also discuss on the issues the peasants are facing on the e-pass system,” the minister said.
The collectors under the central range are going to have a discussion on the procurement at Cuttack on November 7, the minister pointed out.
