Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over the rising farmer suicide cases, Odisha Congress today staged demonstration at all block offices across the State.
In Bolangir local party workers and activists organized a rally at Koshala ground alleging the State government not paying heed to the farmers’ agricultural requirements.
“The government has completely failed to understand what a poor farmer needs to grow crops. What is the need of the financial package after their death?” asked a party activist.
“Only announcing packages can’t solve the problem. The government has to support them with a proper agriculture policy for the benefit of the farmers so that the crop input cost will not over burden them,” observed another.
A similar demonstration led by party’s district president Manoranjan Das and Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) general secretary Subhendu Mohanty was also organized in the State capital. Over a hundred activists who undertook a rally from Master Canteen to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office near Kalpana square shouted anti-government slogans and showed placards.
Reports reaching here said the activists entered into a tussle with the police near the BMC office when they tried to enter forcibly into the office premises.
