Farmer commits suicide in Bargarh
Bargarh: Ahead of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s Bargarh district visit on Thursday, Sudam Mahajura, a young farmer, in Belbahali village under Sadar block allegedly committed suicide by drinking pesticide on Wednesday.
Source said Mahajura had cultivated paddy in his three acres and borrowed Rs 12,000 from villagers to finance his agricultural business needs. He had taken a tractor on rent to plough his farm land and purchased seeds and pesticide.
However, due to scanty rainfall in the district, Mahajura’s paddy crop was allegedly damaged, said source adding that the farmer might have taken the extreme step as he suffered losses.
Mahajura was rushed to Bargarh hospital in a serious condition where he died.
Meanwhile, the district administration has not made any statements on the farmer’s death.
