Berhampur: The Nayagarh District and Sessions court has quashed sedition charges leveled against dreaded Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda on Tuesday.
Panda was booked for sedition by the Nayagarh Police in two cases: the murder of a tyre shop owner and an attack on a coconut-laden truck. He had moved the court against the charges.
“There were a total of nine cases in which sedition charge was slapped against Panda. We had appealed in the lower court against these charges. However, the court rejected our plea in seven cases, while dropping the charges in two. With regards to the seven cases, we have moved the Orissa High Court. The High Court has ordered a stay on them,’ said Panda’s counsel Deepak Patnaik.
