Bhubaneswar: The special vigilance court today concluded hearing of the bail petition of arrested ex-deputy director of mines of Joda circle Manas Mohanty and will pronounce the verdict tomorrow.
Mohanty, who was placed under suspension earlier, was arrested by vigilance sleuths six days ago in connection with the multi-crore Uliburu mining scam.
A vigilance statement said Mohanty was nabbed for allowing extraction of huge quantity of iron ore illegally beyond the Mining Lease area in Uliburu Reserve Forest in Keonjhar district.
A chargesheet showing him as absconder was filed in December, 2013 and special vigilance court in Kenjhar had subsequently issued non-bailable warrant against the former mines officer.
Vigilance sources said Mohanty and others in connivance with Mining Lease holders, fraudulently and dishonestly allowed other accused persons to extract huge quantity of iron ore illegally beyond the mining lease area and permitted them to dispatch or sell at under valued price to Deepak Steel & Power Ltd and others causing huge loss to the government exchequer.
