Rayagada: Four persons were today arrested for their alleged involvement in an inter-state fake currency racket and seized Rs 28,900 notes from their possession here, the police said.
The four belonged to – Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – and were making transactions in the district while trading in cattle, cotton and paddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Y Jagannath Rao said.
On a tip off, the police raided their places here and seized counterfeit currency notes in denomination of Rs 1,000, Rs 500 and Rs 100 besides a colour printer, colour cartridges and mobile phones, Rao said.
This was the second such seizure in the district. On February 27, Rs 4.73 lakh counterfeit currency notes of different denominations were seized at Antamada under Chandeli police station.
Rao said a syndicate was suspected to have been involved in the inter-state racket and people from Odisha were suspected to be in the racket.
Efforts were on to nab those involved, he added.
