Sambalpur: Classes for the first batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management were held in Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur (IIM-S) today.
Total 49 students including nine girls attended the classes of IIM-S temporarily on the campus of Silicon Institute of Technology in Sason.
The classes started at 8.30 am and will continue till 5.30 pm. IIM-Indore professor Bijaya Kumar Gupta took the first class of the students on Finance and Account. In the afternoon, IIM-Indore professor Pawan Kumar Singh will take classes on Organisational Behaviour and HRD.
Notably, the institute has the mandate to take up to 60 students.
Two faculty members are present in the institute as of now to start the classes.
Yesterday, the State’s Technical Education minister Sanjay Das Burma inaugurated IIM-S by attending the orientation programme of the students of the institute.
The State government also handed over the sanction letter for 200 acres of land to the Sambalpur district collector, on which the permanent campus of IIM-S would be set up.
In his Budget speech in July 2014, Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley had announced a proposal for setting up six new IIMs across the country including one in Odisha.
