Bhubaneswar/ Berhampur: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted searches at four places including office of ‘Akshaya Gold’ chit-fund company in Berhampur.
The Vishakhapatnam headquartered ponzi firm had allegedly conned over Rs.1 crore from depositors in south Odisha.
The CBI sleuths held discussions with some depositors and agents of this firm at Badabaar police station in Berhampur.
The company had opened its branch in Sanabazar area of Berhampur in 2010. Through promise of lucrative interest, it had collected deposits from gullible investors. Suddenly, in 2012, the Berhampur branch was closed.
The officials requested the depositors to lodge written complaint with CBI to help in investigation as no depositor has made any complaint in this regard.
In a similar development, the sleuths of central agency arrested two functionaries of chitfund company Laxmi Co-operative in Angul for allegedly duping investors to the tune of Rs 1.23 crore.
