Puri: Preparations for Nabakalebar Rath Yatra are in full swing in the pilgrim city with carpenters in the last phase of making of three chariots at Ratha Khala near Sri Jagannath temple.
The artisans and craftsmen were seen busy with giving final touches to the three chariots and the deities.
‘Simhasana’, ‘Prabha’ and ‘Bedi’ work of the chariots were only left out and will be completed soon.
Afterwards, the chariots will be draped with clothes known as ‘Munduni’ to get ready for the festival.
Rupakar servitors were seen giving final touches to three charioteers, 12 horses, 6 parrots and other wooden idols.
Blacksmith from Sanajoba village in Brajrajnagar of Jharsuguda district are busy in making of break shoe for the chariots. The blacksmith family has been working for the chariots since 2008 free of cost.
This year’s Rath Yatra is considered to be special as the three presiding deities of Srimandir have been replaced with new idols during Nabakalebar ritual.
Chaturddha Murti of the Srimandir are recovering from fever with rituals pertaining to ‘Dasamula Modaka’ are being performed. Source said the deities will adorn the thrones tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Sri Jagannath’s chief servitor or ‘Badagrahi’ Jagannath Swain Mohapatra reaffirmed today ‘Daitapati’ servitors will fully cooperate with Srimandir administration for timely completion of rituals of Rath Yatra. Questions are being raised about the completion of rituals for the festival after the delay in ‘Brahma Parivartan’ rituals of Holy Trinity.
