CDRC to function from this month in Berhampur

Berhampur: The circuit bench of the state Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (CDRC) will start functioning here by the end of this month, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma said.

Lawyers had been agitating since August,2014, for the circuit bench and this affected functioning of Ganjam district consumer forum.

“The government has completed its task. I appeal to the agitating lawyers to allow normal functioning of the district forum,” said the minister, who was on a visit here.

Earlier, a delegation of Ganjam District Consumer Bar Association led by MLA (Berhampur) R C Chyaupatnaik met the minister over the issue.

The circuit bench will hear appeals of consumers in ten southern Odisha districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malikanagiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi and Nuapada. The state commission is the only appellate authority of the district forum.
