Bhubaneswar: The capital city will get closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at important locations from February 5, said sources here today.
Under the City Surveillance Project, 28 such cameras will be installed at different squares. In the second phase, 40 more cameras will be put up at different areas of the city while another 22 will be installed in the third phase, they added.
In a meeting held at the Commissionerate Police office here and attended by the police commissioner, Police Housing Corporation chairman and the BSNL officials, it was decided to carry out the installation of CCTVs in the city in phases. Total Rs 23 crore is estimated to be spent on the project, they added.
The CCTVs will have a close watch on traffic rule violators and give specific information to police about suspicious activities, the sources further said.
