Liquor shop owner murdered in Barang
Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a liquor shop owner was murdered by a gang of miscreants near Madhupur under Barang police station who fled with cash worth Rs 1 lakh cash from the deceased on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Swain alias Kalia of Deuli village.
The assailants ambushed Swain with sharp weapons on the outskirts of Madhupur village while he was on the way to his home after closing down his shop at Trisulia. Sustaining multiple injuries on his head and other parts of his body, Gobinda died on the spot later.
Following information, police rushed to the spot and started investigations. Police have detained five persons in this connection.
On being asked about those involved in the murder, Bhaskar Swain, father of the deceased, said some youths of Madhupur village like Padia Sahu, Bibabhi Sahu and Tulu Pradhan had long-standing enmity with his son.
“These youths were demanding liquor with free of cost from my son who refused to oblige them. Due to this, there were frequent quarrels between my son and these youths. Due to these incidents, I had told my son to close down his business”, he said.
The hapless father also informed that his son had called him up at about 12 AM in his mobile phone to keep the door of his house open as he was expected to arrive at the house in minutes.
“He was on the way to his house carrying a cash worth Rs one lakh”, he added.
Some villagers of Madhupur village said they saw Gobinda lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries on his head and other parts of his body while his scooter was lying on the other side of the road the dickey was found broken.
Meanwhile, one platoon of armed police force has been deployed in and around Madhupur village to ward off any untoward incident.
