Rayagada: A ten-member team of State BJP led by senior leader Bijay Mohapatra on Sunday visited the drought-hit areas in Gunpur areas of the district to take stock of the situation.
The team accompanied by other leaders like Bhrugu Buxipatra, Rammurti Gamange, Sishir Gamanga discussed with the farmers of Nuagaon, Ramanaguda, Kujendri and Penakam villages and asked them to give written complaint.
Criticizing the State’s effort over the issue, the saffron party leaders alleged that the government officials are assessing the situation without conducting field visit. “Their assessment is confined to only pen and paper. The farmers are now helpless”, Bijaya Mohapatra said. “We requested them not to commit suicide and to make written complaint over their demands”, he added.
The team demanded weaving of all agriculture loans and proper compensation for the drought-hit farmers.
Countering BJP’s charge, BJD spokesperson Ravi Narayan Nanda said “BJP’s main activity is to bring allegation against government. Government is taking every possible measure to tackle the drought crisis. They (BJP leaders) should come forward and cooperate government in this regard”.
