Bhubaneswar: Blast in restaurant kills three, injures four
Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate accident, three people lost their lives and four more were injured after a generator exploded in a restaurant at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar. The incident occurred at ‘Seven Miles’ restaurant when a generator inside the premises exploded leading to a severe fire.
Though the exact reason behind the blast is yet to be ascertained, eye witnesses present at the spot said that while few persons were bursting crackers outside the restaurant, sparks from the crackers which landed on the generator is the reason behind the explosion.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyabrata Bhoi said “According to the statements taken from the eye witnesses, the explosion was triggered by the sparks from crackers. The explosion was further exacerbated as the generator was in running condition and was loaded with fuel.”
Investigations are on to accurately determine the reason behind the blast, he added.
Such was the intensity of the explosion that one security guard who was on duty and two other persons died on the spot, informed sources. The bodies of the deceased were also mutilated by the intensity of the blast. Moreover, the window panes of the restaurant and nearby residential buildings were also shattered by the explosion.
The injured have been shifted to the various hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
“I was returning from the restaurant after giving a Diwali gift and suddenly there was an explosion. I don’t remember anything else after that,” said one of the injured.
“There were some crackers which were kept near the generator. Outside the restaurant, some people were bursting crackers and the sparks from there landed on the crackers near the generator triggering the blast,” said one of the employees of the restaurant who was seriously injured.
