Koraput/Balangir/Cutack: Four farmers have allegedly committed suicide in Odisha’s Balangir, Cuttack and Koraput districts on Saturday.
According to reports, Sudhira Sahu of Sampda village under Tigiria block in Cuttack district committed suicide over alleged crop loss and financial burden.
He was admitted to Athagarh hospital after he attempted suicide by hanging self.
Earlier in the day, three farmers, Laba Harijana, Gurubaru Sahoo and Harendra Bindhani of Koraput , Balanagir and Mayurbhanj districts also ended their life due to the same reason.
Laba Harijana, a farmer of Bhejaguda village under Jeypore block in Koraput district had consumed poison due crop loss and debt burden.
He died while undergoing treatment while undergoing treatment in Jeypore medical.
Harendra Bindhani of Jambani village under Bamanghati sub-division of Mayurbhanj district also hanged self due to the same reason.
Gurubaru Sahoo from Jamajuri village in Belpada block of Patnagarh in Balangir district died after consuming poison allegedly over crop loss and debt burden.
Sahoo consumed pesticide yesterday after which he was admitted to the Patnagarh Hospital. Sahoo breathed his last today at the hospital.
“We had cultivated 5-6 acres of land after taking loans. Due to crop loss and loan repayment burden, he consumed poison,” said Bhumisuta Sahoo, wife of deceased Gurubaru.
Yesterday, four farmers had commited suicide allegedly due to crop failure and debt burden.
