Nuapada: The suicide of farmers continue unabated in Odisha as another farmer of Jampada in Titilagarh breathed his last on Wednesday at a hospital in Nuapada district, where he was undergoing treatment due to consuming poison yesterday.
The deceased farmer was identified as Peeta Nag and admitted to the Khadial Mission hospital yesterday evening after he consumed poison in his farmland.
Source said 45-year-old Nag died at 8 am in the hospital. He had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh for the purpose of agricultural activities in his six acres of land.
With this death, the number of farmers, who have committed suicide, reached six in the State.
On Tuesday, one farmer each from Bargarh and Nuapada districts committed suicide.
In Bargarh district, Magsheer Majhi (50) of Tukurla village under Bhatli police limits committed suicide by consuming pesticide. Majhi had grown paddy on eight acres of land and taken Rs 60,000 as loan from Katapali branch of SBI for the purpose.
Similarly, in Nuapada district, Dharmodhar Ada (35) of Khirmal village under Boden block, who consumed pesticide late on Sunday night, died at Mission Hospital at Khariar on Tuesday.
Ada had grown paddy on his one acre of land and taken five acres on lease to grow paddy and another four acres to grow cotton. He borrowed Rs 50,000 for the purpose. But, poor rainfall washed away his hope of a good yield.
