Rourkela: Odia engineer Prabhas Samal, who was abducted by ISIS militants in Libya and freed later, on Friday reached the steel city of Odisha to meet his mother and other family members.
He was accorded a warm welcome by not only his family members, but also more than a hundred locals on his arrival. Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray also welcomed Samal after the latter reached the city.
Samal had arrived in Bhubaneswar from New Delhi on Friday and stayed at a cousin’s place.
Talking to mediapersons, Samal said by the grace of god he is alive. “After meeting my family members, I have forgotten the past incidents,” he added.
Though a native of Karilopatna village in Kendrapara district, Samal’s family members are presently staying at Rourkela.
A biomedical engineer by profession, Samal was working in a hospital at Sirte. He was in touch with his family members till August 20. While there was no communication to his family since then, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that Samal has been kidnapped by ISIS militants.
However, on September 17, Samal called up his sister-in-law and said he was released from captivity and wanted to come back to Odisha. Again there was no communication from him after that.
The family members, who were tensed over the whereabouts of Samal, finally heaved a sigh of relief after receiving the news on his arrival in Delhi from Tripoli, the capital city of Libya, on September 30.
