Bhubaneswar: Anticipating 30 lakh footfall of devotees during ensuing Rath Yatra, the Odisha government has decided to deploy about nine thousand police personnel in the temple town.
After attending a review meet chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, director general of police (DGP) Sanjev Marik said as many as twelve Commandant and SP rank officers will inspect the security system during the festival in Puri.
“Besides, 30 numbers of ASP, 70 deputy superintends of police (DSP), 102 inspectors, 780 sub-inspectors will be in action for the security arrangements,” Marik stated.
While 164 platoons of force will be spread over to guard the temple town, two platoons of rapid action force (RPF) will be kept to meet any exigency.
“At least three patrolling boats will keep a vigil on the coast of the town,” Marik said.
