Bhubaneswar: As many as 40 persons including three kids at different place in the capital city sustained injuries due to firecracker explosions and admitted to various hospitals here during Diwali celebrations on Wednesday evening.
While two youths sustained critical injuries due to explosion of firecrackers in their hand, a youth from Khurda admitted to Capital Hospital here after suffering from burn injuries due to explosion.
In another incident, a major fire broke out at a furniture showroom in Palasuni area here on Wednesday evening destroying properties worth Rs 1 crore. According to eye witnesses present at the spot, flames from crackers led to the fire.
The incident occurred at Kwality Furniture showroom situated near the Saptasati Temple in Palasuni.
Though the police and fire tenders rushed to the spot, the blaze was so severe that it took 3 hours to bring it under control, informed sources.
Though no casualties were reported, seven inmates of nearby girls’ hostel were taken ill after smoke from the shop engulfed their premises, said sources.
Similarly, as many as 10 persons were injured among whom 3 persons sustained serious injuries after an explosion in a cracker shop.
The incident occurred near Chikiti Dhanghar area of Berhampur. According to sources, the three persons who were seriously injured in the explosion have been shifted to Vishakhapatnam for treatment. The others are undergoing treatment at the Berhampur hospital, added sources.
Some of the nearby shops were also damaged in the explosion.
