Two minor girls drown in village pond

Kendrapara: In a tragic incident, two minor girls met watery grave in a village pond in Kendrapara district this morning.

According to reports, three minor girls of Deuligan village under Pattamundai police station limits had gone to pluck lily flowers from a pond on the outskirts of the village in the morning on the occasion of Kumar Purnima.

While trying to pluck the flowers, two minor girls slipped into deep waters. At this, another minor girl tried to rescue them but she also went into the deep waters. However, as she cried for help, some villagers in the nearby area rushed to the pond and rescued the minor girl. The villagers later rescued the bodies of the two minor girls.

The deceased have been identified as Pujarini Behera, a Class IV student, and Subhadra Behera, a Class II student.

Meanwhile, the condition of the rescued girl, Manjulata Behera, elder sister of Pujarini, was stated to be stable, said the doctors at the district headquarters hospital.
