Bhubaneswar: The entire opposition today created ruckus in the state assembly and demanded immediate arrest of controversial contractor Bapi Sarkhel, the main accused in the Posco site violent clashes in which one person was killed on December 14. The ruling BJD members too demanded Crime Branch investigation into the incident.

The opposition Congress and BJP members during the Zero Hour created noisy scenes and wanted to know from the treasury bench why the controversial contractor Bapi Sarkhel was not arrested by the police about a week after the tragic incident. The opposition members alleged that the police was not interested to nab Bapi Sarkhel due to his close proximity with certain powerful elements in the ruling party. BJP leader Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Congress member Anup Sai demanded that the government should table details about the contractor on the run in the assembly.

Even some ruling party members joined with the opposition bench and demanded stern action against the man. The members demanded that the Crime Branch must be asked to investigate the case. The members demanded that the transport company of Bapi Sarkhel, the Paradip Transport Private Limited should also be included in the purview of the Crime Branch investigation.

The police has registered two complaints against Bapi Sarkhel in connection with the killing of one man on December 14 in the violent group clashes at Posco site during the construction of the controversial Coastal Road. The police has failed to lay its hand on Bapi despite conducting simultaneous raids on the offices of Bapi Sarkhle at Paradip, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Sunday.
