Opposition Eyes To Corner Odisha Govt In Winter Session Of Assembly

Bhubaneswar: The winter session of Odisha Assembly is likely to begin with a stormy note from November 13 with the Opposition political parties ready to go all guns blazing at the ruling BJD over several major issues.

The chief opposition, BJP has planned to raise issues including the death of lady PEO Smitarani Biswal, harassment of woman employee by Kendrapara credit cooperative society president and alleged PMAY irregularities. According to sources, a meeting of BJP party legislature will be held on November 13 to discuss party's agenda ahead of the winter session.

BJP MLA and Deputy Opposition Leader Bishnu Sethi said, “BJP will stress mainly on issues of safety & healthcare for women, irregularities in assistance to Fani beneficiaries and wrongdoings in PMAY scheme.”

Similarly, Congress is likely to corner the State government over deteriorating law and order situation in the State, percentage commission (PC) 'culture' and allegations over Odisha government's inadequate preparedness for cyclone Bulbul.

However, on the other hand the ruling BJD has said that it fully poised to face the Opposition attack in the House. School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Das today noted that the State government is ready to discuss on any issues that the Opposition would like to raise.

According to official sources, there will be a total of 30 working days during the upcoming Assembly session, out of which 21 days have been earmarked for official business.

On the first day of the assembly session, additional budget for the financial year 2019 -2020 will be tabled and later discussions will be held for three days, informed Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha.

"We are expecting Opposition's support to ensure smooth running of the upcoming assembly session which will end on December 19," said Arukha.
