Berhampur: One person was killed and a dozen others were injured in group clash at two separate places in Ganjam district, police said today. The deceased was identified as Mitu Prdhan (35), a BJD worker of Badachakada village where CPI-M and BJD supporters clashed.

Pradhan, who was critically injured in the clash on Friday night and undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, succumbed to injuries on Saturday, police said. Five others were injured in the clash and five houses set ablaze, they said adding previous enmity between the two political groups was stated to be the cause of the incident. No one was arrested as most of the male persons allegedly involved in the incident absconded after the incident, Chhatrapur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Shantanu Padhy said.

In another incident, at least seven persons, including three women were injured in a group cash at Bananai on Saturday. One of the seriously injured was admitted at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here, police said. Seven persons were arrested in connection with the incident, the police said. The situation in both the villages was under control and police forces deployed to maintain law and order.
