Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and at least 35 persons were injured in three separate bus accidents in Berhampur, Rayagada and Banki on Tuesday.

According to sources, a woman was killed after being hit by a bus from behind on NH-16 near Chamakhandi in Berhampur. She was pillion riding with her son.

In another incident, 32 passengers got injured after the private bus in which they were travelling fell off Andhari nullah under Bissamcuttack area in Rayagada district.

There were nearly 50 to 60 passengers in the bus when it reportedly skidded off the road after its driver lost control over the wheel. The bus was on its way to Jagdalpur from Dumurineli.

Out of the total 35 injured passengers, the condition of six is said to be critical. All the injured are undergoing treatment at two different hospitals in the district.

Following the accident, the driver of the bus is absconding while police have started a probe into the incident.

In another incident, passengers of another private bus had a close shave after it hit a roadside tree near Ranasankha in Banki today. The bus was on its way to Cuttack from Banki.

Three passengers were hurt though the front portion of the bus got completely damaged in the accident.

Sources said that the mishap occurred due to some ‘mechanical glitch’ in the bus.
