Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today hiked the salary of Sikhya Sahayaks and junior teachers which will be effective from the current month. School and Mass Education minister Rabi Narayan Nanda announced the revised salary structures today.
 
Henceforth, the Sikhya Sahayaks will draw an amount of Rs 5,200 instead of Rs 4000 while the junior teachers, who were paid Rs 4,500 per month, will now get Rs 7000 from the current month. As many as 24,044 Sikhya Sahayaks and 36,000 junior teachers will be benefited with the revised salary structure, Nanda told mediamen.
 
The All Odisha Sikhya Sahayak Association welcomed government decision. The association said the government has honoured the long standing demand of the teachers bringing cheers to the teachers’ families.
 
On the other hand, Opposition Congress termed it as pre-election gimmick of the ruling party. Leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh said the government has taken such decision keeping the 2014 general elections in mind in order to garner support from the teaching community.
