Bhubaneswar: The 14th winter session of the Odisha Assembly was adjourned till tomorrow without transacting any business on the opening day today after paying rich tributes to the departed leaders including former Speaker Somanth Rath.
 
“The House is adjourned till tomorrow as a mark of respect to late members of this House. All the questions scheduled to be tabled today were considered of being presented. The question hour will begin on Friday at exact 10.30 am” Speaker Pradip Amat said after the obituary reference. 
 
Soon after the House assembled, CM Naveen Patnaik moved the condolence motion recalling the great departed leaders and defence personnel. The House observed one-minute silent prayers for the late heroes.
 
“The sad demise of the ex-members of this August House and the martyrs is a great loss to the nation and to the members of the bereaved families. I, therefore, request you to kindly convey our sincere condolence to the bereaved families”, CM Naveen Patnaik said in the condolence message.
 
The session, which will continue till December 26, will have 23 working days including four private members' days. State Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya will present a supplementary budget for the current year on Nov 29.
 
Cyclone Phailin and subsequent floods which ravaged many parts of the States are likely to be subjects of debate in the assembly. Besides, Opposition Congress and BJP are likely to raise the issue of Bhushan steel mishap.
