Phulbani: Everybody is aware of the spine chilling winter at Daringbadi where temperature sometimes drops to minus degree Celsius. But the cool climate in summer here is now drawing tourists from several parts of the country to get a respite from the scorching heat.

Daringbadi, also known as the Kashmir of Odisha is a hill station located at an altitude of 3000 ft above the sea level in Kandhamal district. It is now fast turning into a popular holiday destination as there has been a rise in the number of tourists here.

"It is a good place and the scenic beauty is mesmerizing. We heard that Daringbadi is like Kashmir and this is the reason why despite summer season, we have come all the way from West Bengal," said Surajit Mandal, a tourist.

Waterfalls such as Dasingbadi, Ludu, Putudi and Badangia, Silent Valley, Nature Park, coffee gardens, Hill View Park, Pine forests and Lovers Point are some of other stopovers where tourists can visit while on a trip to Daringbadi to relax from hustles and bustles of the cities.

Saurav Pandey, another tourist said"I want to buy a house here and live for the rest of my life. It's evening now and the sunset from this point is magical."

"It would have been a welcoming move if the State Government takes more steps to develop the sites here which will ultimately attract more visitors. The climate of Daringbadi is cool in comparison to other parts of the State and country during summer. This is also one of the reasons behind rise in tourist inflow," said a tourist guide, Mathews Digal.

On the other hand, Baliguda Sub-collector, Satya Krishnan KP informed that the administration is trying to take up works to develop the tourist places in the town.
