Bhubaneswar/Malkangiri:  It seems years will take to resolve the alarming Maoist issue in the naxal hot-bed Malknagiri district, if statement of the Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh is anything to go by. Ramesh during his two-day tour to the region on Tuesday said that the Maoist issue can not be solved until the Gurupriya bridge is completed. Incidentally the government had called tender six times for the bridge, but not a lone contractor dared to take up the work, thanks to the dreadful activities of the red rebels.

Being other side of the Balimela dam, nearly twenty five thousand residents under seven panchayats have been deprived of the basic facilities since past 45 years. Though the government had broken grounds two times to start construction work at the site, it is yet to take a concrete shape. Even the Odisha Construction Company has also shown its helplessness due to unavailability of contractors to pursue the bridge work.
