Jamshedpur: Night train services between Tatanagar-Rourkela station under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway resumed after a gap of about 18 months with the plying of Howrah-Kurla Express on Tuesday.

Train services in naxal-affected areas passing through Kharagpur-Tatanagar-Rourkela had remained suspended during night between 11 am to 5 pm since last year`s Jnaneshwari Express incident on May 28 near Jhargram in West Bengal.

Railway sources said Howrah-Kurla express left Chakradharpur station at 9.40 pm on Tuesday night.

The train was detained at Chakradharpur station since Jnaneshwari incident and used to leave for its onward journey in the morning next day.

Railway sources said only limited trains, mainly passenger trains and Kurla Express, have resumed on the route.

Meanwhile, the BJP on Tuesday staged a dharna at several stations under Kolhan region demanding immediate resumption of night train services on the main Howrah-Mumbai route between Kharagpur-Tatanagar-Rourkela stations.

Night train services continue to remain suspended between Kharagpur-Tatanagar stations.
